Our Mission

Built for Privacy. Built for You.

We believe editing a PDF shouldn't mean surrendering it to a stranger's server.

Why We Built Private Editors

The problem with most online PDF tools is straightforward: they ask you to upload your file. That means your document — which might contain a contract, medical record, tax form, or confidential business plan — travels over the internet to a company's server, gets stored temporarily (or sometimes permanently), and is processed by software you can't inspect or verify.

We found that unacceptable. So we built Private Editors to work differently from the ground up.

How It Actually Works

Private Editors is a static website — meaning there is no backend server at all. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the page and the processing libraries (pdf-lib, jsPDF, and PDF.js). From that point, all PDF operations happen locally in your browser using JavaScript.

Your file is loaded into temporary browser memory, processed, and the result is offered as a download — entirely without leaving your device. When you close or refresh the tab, the browser clears that memory. Nothing persists. Nothing is transmitted.

This isn't just a privacy policy promise — it's architecturally impossible for us to receive your files, because we've built a site with no mechanism to do so.

Our Principles

  • Privacy by design. We design tools so that data privacy is the natural outcome, not an extra setting to enable.
  • Free, always. Because we have no servers processing your documents, we have no per-user costs. Every tool is free for everyone, with no limits, forever.
  • Transparency. We explain exactly how each tool works. If you're technically curious, you can inspect every line of JavaScript in your browser's dev tools.
  • Accessibility. Document tools should work for everyone. We build for all modern browsers, including mobile, with accessibility as a priority.
  • No dark patterns. We don't use countdown timers, fake urgency, watermarks on free output, or forced account creation.

Who This Is For

Private Editors was built for anyone who needs to work with PDFs and values the privacy of their documents: legal professionals, medical practitioners, accountants, journalists, HR departments, students, and anyone handling sensitive personal information.

It's also for the privacy-conscious individual who simply doesn't want their documents stored on a third party's servers — for any reason. You shouldn't need to justify your need for privacy.

The Technology Stack

We use battle-tested open-source libraries for PDF processing: pdf-lib for modifying existing PDFs (merging, splitting, rotating, adding watermarks), jsPDF for creating PDFs from scratch, and PDF.js (by Mozilla) for rendering and previewing PDF content in the browser.

The site itself is built with vanilla JavaScript and no heavy frameworks. It's hosted as a static site on Firebase Hosting and served globally via Cloudflare's CDN for fast load times everywhere.
